– All systems are now in order as the country's premier R and B band launches an international music career.
Multi-awarded Filipino band South Border's bid for international stardom started April this year in the United States of America when they performed before stand up crowds at the Viper Room (Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood), the Armory (San Diego, South San Francisco Auditorium), The Gig (Melrose Avenue, Hollywood), the Rhythm Lounge (Downtown Long Beach), the Knitting Factory (Hollywood), the Roxy Club (New York), the Lisner Auditorium (Washington, D.C.), the Pickwick Theater (Park Ridge, Illinois) and at the Maydenbauer Center. (Bellevue, Washington)
All performances were very well-received that the management of the highly popular B.B. King's clubs has offered them to become headliners. In fact, B.B. King's Universal City Walk owner and general manager Dimarkco Chandler was quoted as defining South Border as “the best band that has ever played in B.B. King's”. The band is to perform at BB Kings in Universal City Walk on September 30, October 28, November 18 and December 9.
The band, recently in the United Kingdom had a successful show at the Lampton Park (Hounslow, London, July 16), will be back in the U.S.A. in September to fulfill the coveted offer. B.B. King's clubs are located all over the U.S.A. The said offer has truly emphasized the band's highly promising future as “the next Asian invasion”.
“South Border is just the group to bring it in”, underscored Gian Fiero, Senior Music Reviewer for Musesmuse.com and music licensing specialist whose professional opinion is sought after by music artists around the world. Fiero, whose insightful reviewers have garnered the attention and respect of the music industry's moves and shakers, also added that Jay Durias’ and the group's “fine musicianship...is enough to make it happen”.
Such perspective was also reiterated by Bruce Penn of BAP Media (New York). Penn, the former manager of vocal group Allure, said that South Border “doesn't sound Filipino”.
“They sound like true musicians. This means their music has nothing to do with color and race. They're all about good quality music”, he said.
The band, best known for monster hits “Rainbow” (recognized as the most downloaded song and is also available on AOL Music Now, Daiki in Japan, Vodaphone in Europe, Rhapsody and on iTunes to name a few), “Kahit Kailan”, “Ikaw Nga”, “Wherever You Are” and “Sweet” (the very first Filipino song to be featured in 93.5 KDAY radio station) is composed of Jay Oliver Durias (musical director, keyboards), Duncan Ramos (vocals), Vince Alaras (vocals), Paul Benitez (drums), Ric Junasa (saxophone), Butch Victoriano (lead guitar) and Tata Balane (bass).
In September, the group will fly to Australia for a show on the 9th after which they will proceed directly to the U.S.A.
Sharon Inductivo and Lucy Slattery co-manage South Border. The former is also a gifted lyricist of several well-loved South Border songs while the latter is the former Sony Music Marketing Manager in the Philippines for Local Repertoire. Together, Sharon and Lucy are working with international promoters, press and record distribution companies to exploit the band’s international potential.
Fans all over the world can also now interact with one another online via South Border's Message Board. South Border Street Teams have also been organized. Composed of volunteer fans who help promote South Border all over the world, the teams already exist in Japan, Malaysia, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, London, Australia, Italy, Spain, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, Dubai, Canada, the U.S.A. and the Philippines. Why "din-din" goes gaga over football and The Pearl of the Orient Seas.
originally written with pen on paper, on July 11, 2006 while the kids i'm babysitting were taking their siesta. (mas tama bang having or taking their siesta? i'm confuse.) edited yesterday and posted today. hehehe.
"My country, right or wrong," is a thing that no patriot would think of saying except in a desperate case. It is like saying, "My mother, drunk or sober." -G. K. Chesterton
sa totoo lang, it was never about the football game (and no, it wasn't for the abs either). pedeng naging basketball, volleyball or patintero yung laro, walang magbabago.. mega-obsess pa rin sigurado ako doon sa event.
you see, i was born, lived my first 4 years and been living the last 5 years of my life, here in my beloved italia. as i see it, italy is my biological mother while philippines is my adoptive mum.
i obsessed myself with football, not for the love of the game (or the players) but for the love of italy. yes, i love italy. and italy loves me back. i love italy for so many reasons and for no reason at all.. it's complicated... i love italia just because.
and i love pilipinas too.. but on a different level, it's more like i love pilipinas because of the people who live there rather than pilipinas itself. i'm not saying that if by any chance, everyone i know would migrate to somewhere else (and i'm pretty sure that this would NEVER happen), i'd stop caring for pilipinas anymore, no.. it's not like that. but i have my reasons why i can't love pilipinas, just like that.
When I am abroad, I always make it a rule never to criticize or attack the government of my own country. I make up for lost time when I come home. -Sir Winston Churchill
i am proud of saying that i am a filipina. no problems. no hesitations. unlike most (not all) filipinos, who'll pretend to be from somewhere else. i am not humiliated by my pilipinas. in spite of it all, i am not ashamed.
(better late than never?) i am somewhat guilty of this too. almost. not because i abnegate my being a filipino. but because i used to prefer imported goods. not the food. not the music. mostly just clothes and stuffs. hehehe.
40% off our check. nyahahaha! <<-end of off-topic.->>
<<-off-topic.->> i was once told by a group of filipinos, who at that time i thought could actually be my group of friends, that i cannot be one of them because i was too italian for their taste, using the fact that i was born here as an excuse. after a few days, i found out it was because i wasn't "white" enough for them, i was white enough to be mistaken for a spanish but not as an italian. But this, deserves a new post. <<-end of off-topic.->>
i hated the feeling. i hate it still. and i still hate them.
i think the problem is, that most filipinos suffer from inferiority complex, (and yes, me too. sometimes.) we bring ourselves down. most times, we think that other people are always better than us. that we are not as good as they are and what others do is always better. kaya madalas kahit mismong filipino mas prefer pa nya yung taga-ibang bansa kesa sa kapwa nya pinoy. paki-ramdam nila na kapag ang nga barkada nila puro puti they're better compared to those who only have fellow pinoys as ka-barkadas.
<<-end of off-topic.->>
i say it again, it was never the football, it was is the feeling it gave me, the sense of belongingness, the feeling of knowing that i am a part of something big, something great, something honest.
i am proud to be a filipina. but i am also happy to live here. i am not a sporty-person but i cheer for both filipino & italian athletes. i support great artists, no matter what the nationality is.
i still think most filipinos are better than italians.
and no, i am not living "la dolce vita". yet.
speaking of supporting great artists. let's support our fellow filipino artists, the South Border (friendster profile).
i'm finally done with the part-time summer job. no more baby sitting chuva. will be posting a LONG post tomorrow. i'll also be moving the webjay player (the one posted below) on the right side of this blog. and there will probably be a new tag-board, like the one that i saw on trish's blog, the neoboard thinggy.

I love to see the ocean's beauty And the moon that shines above Alone in the sand lookin at the stars Wishing someday I would find true love
Wouldn't be nice to see the morning With the one you love the most Wouldn't be nice to say goodnight To the one you hold so close To your heart, to your heart...
The wind that blows the dove Is the wind that blows my love Hoping to find its way to you Wherever you are
I love to sit in fields of green Looking deeply thru the sky Watching birds as they flap by Hoping someday faith will bring me true love
Wouldn't be nice to hold someone So dear, n near your heart Wouldn't be nice to hear those words I love you, from the one That you love, that you love
The wind that blows the dove Is the wind that blows my love Hoping to find its way to you Wherever you are
The wind that blows the dove Is the wind that blows my love Hoping to find its way to you Wherever you are
I love to see myself one day In the arms of someone Who will share her life with me Selflessly, someday you will find your way, To me . . .
The wind that blows the dove Is the wind that blows my love Hoping to find its way to you Wherever you are
The wind that blows the dove Is the wind that blows my love Hoping to find its way to you Wherever you are, Wherever you are
To fear love is to fear life, and those who fear life are already three parts dead.

German dreams of reaching the FIFA World Cup™ Final died in Dortmund as two goals in the final moments of extra time carried Italy into the Final as 2-0 semi-final winners on Tuesday, 4 July 2006.
Italy now advance to their first FIFA World Cup Final since 1994 and their sixth overall. They will face the winners of Wednesday's Portugal-France semi-final in Berlin's Olympiastadion on Sunday, 24 hours after Germany have contested third place with the losers of that match in Stuttgart.
Only a couple of superbly-executed Italian goals could separate these two very evenly-matched teams on a night of high drama in Dortmund. Once again, Marcello Lippi’s side defended magnificently and the superb Gianluigi Buffon has still to concede a goal at Germany 2006 from an opposition player. However, while it is the Azzurri who march on to the Final, Germany - beaten in Dortmund for the first time ever - can reflect on their FIFA World Cup™ campaign with pride, having played throughout with spirit and skill in abundance.

I'm an idealist. I don't know where I'm going, but I'm on my way.
Italy cruised into the semi-finals of Germany 2006 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Ukraine in Dortmund on Friday, 30 June 2006.
A sixth-minute strike from Gianluca Zambrotta set the tone for the evening and a second-half brace from Luca Toni merely compounded the misery for Oleg Blokhin’s side. Oleg Gusev, Andriy Gusin and Maksym Kalinichenko all went close for Ukraine, but were denied by a combination of the woodwork and some excellent goalkeeping by Gianluigi Buffon.
Italy now turn their attentions to a semi-final tie with the hosts in Dortmund on Tuesday, 4 July, while FIFA World Cup™ debutants Ukraine will return home justifiably proud of their efforts.
the game started 'round 9 in the evening so, i watched the game "at the comfort of my bed", plus the duomo place was already crowded as early as 5 in the afternoon. so, i wasn't able to watch it from the mega-tv located at the (public) square and take pictures of the post-partita.
anyway, i asked a friend to e-mail me some pictures. and here it is the pictures, after the game..
